I had been searching for a job for three months until I applied for one through a referral from a member of this group.

My wife and I moved to Canada one year ago. I spoke to Banks about a role we were interested in, and she connected us with someone in the organization who referred my wife. My wife got the job.

Giles and his team at Herrington Business Consulting have been absolutely great to work with and they definitely have gone above and beyond for us by streamlining all of our accounts so that we can focus on what we do love to do and continue to grow our business. After 10 months of searching for the right opportunity, I came across a flyer for a JVS job fair in a WhatsApp group shortly after joining. Although registration had closed by the time I saw it, I took a chance and called the number on the flyer to ask if I could still attend and thankfully, they granted me a spot. At the event, I connected with two recruiters out of the ten companies present. One of them referred me to a hiring manager who happened to be on-site. We had a brief preliminary interview, and I was invited to apply for a role. A week later, I got a call for a formal interview, and the week after that, I received a job offer. Grateful to Nigerian Canada Life group for creating such a supportive space and for helping make the information about the fair available

Sales Role
I joined the bootcamp unsure of what to expect. It helped me refine my resume, strengthen my portfolio, and clarify my direction. I haven’t secured my dream role yet, but I now feel equipped.”

I applied to *** in May and got rejected, I remember being so confused and upset, I came to the customer success group around June to rant, Banks reached out on the group and suggested names I could reach out to. I reached out to D and J. D helped with helping me work on my resume, we did about 5/6 drafts and she was so patient in helping me rework it, she encouraged me, prayed with me, and told me to reapply. I reapplied using a different email, got called for the phone interview, I reached out to J and D again and they gave me tips. Aced that and I got called for the teams interviews with the leaders. I had about one week to prep, and D and J set out time to prep me on what I needed to know. I went through the website and spent about 3 days going through it and getting myself prepared for the interview. My interview was on a Friday and I got offered the role the following Monday. Started this week and it has been so so wonderful. J basically helped me integrate, had lunch with me, and made me feel so so welcome. I would like to take D and J now that I have started working at ***, I can see how much sacrifice it took for these ladies to take out time to help me, encourage me, speak positive words, root for me and check in on me from time to time. I do not take it for granted. Thank you to banks for this group and thank you to my special special ladies. Words would never be enough.

had been getting interviews but not landing roles. Before my final-stage interview, I received structured prep support and practiced possible questions. The next day after the interview, I received the offer.

The group felt like therapy during my job search. I learned how to tailor my resume better and kept going. After a year and one month, I landed a role in the industry I wanted.

I had moved to Canada April 2024, and was about 2 months into my job hunt when my friend added me to the group. I got a couple of referrals and had an interview for one. I didn’t get the job but the group felt like Therapy for me. It made me understand I was not alone and I could see people success story. I also started using a link that was shared by someone in the group that had a ChatGPT link that only required my cv and job description to help tailor a resume, that made apply easier. Finally landed a job after a year and one month in the industry I always wanted😁

I joined the Twitter Spaces, watched recorded Zoom sessions, and connected with Coach Tim. Banks was always willing to support and answer any questions I had. Before joining the community, I wasn’t receiving any callbacks, but in my first week of applying what I’ve learned, I received two callbacks. Simply by being a member of the community, I’ve refined my job search strategies and learned to shift my mindset.

I was looking for another job because my job contract at the time was ending. Banks posted in the group an open position at her workplace. She offered to give referral. I applied for the position and i got it!

I have been in Canada for close to 2 years. I have been on survival job. The zeal to became more serious with job applications was rikindled after attending the resume clinic. I applied for about 17 jobs between May 1st and May 12, applying the tips from the resume clinic. I got 3 interview invites and I got offers from 2 of the 3 interviews. I used the Yoodli AI to prepare for the interview. I heard about Yoodli at the resume clinic. 2 of the jobs I interviewed for were posted on the group. Coach Timi and Uche were supportive in the journey.

Lol! It’s still feels so surreal. I’ve been desperately looking for a Product Manager role for a while. I applied to a lot of different roles (decided not to track the numbers because I didn’t want to be depressed 😂). I wasn’t even getting a lot of interviews and the few ones I got ended in “unfortunately”. I got tired in May and decided to take a pause on job applications for a bit. I was truly discouraged and really started doubting myself like “maybe I’m not that smart after all…” Then, one of the companies I had applied to reached out. I went through the interview stages; the last one was with the co-founder. The guy threw me into a pool of situational questions. Omo! I didn’t even know what I was saying at a point. Anyway, I don sign one sexy offer like that.😘 I finally got my dream job. 💃 I just want to encourage anyone still looking for a job to keep trying. Don’t be discouraged and don’t stop applying (like me 😂) Your testimony is in your corner.

I landed in Canada about a year and some months ago. What I thought would be a quick thing where I would land and in 2/3 months I'd secure a job and settle in properly turned to a year of job hunting and rejections, in all that time I'm glad I came across the Nigerian Canada community, it was in the community that I would sometimes see job postings, sometimes I'd reach out to people for referrals and honestly the general encouragement that I'd get when someone comes on the group to announce how they just landed a job. It was all so uplifting especially on days when the weight of rejections got heavy, the Nigerian Canadian community made the 1 year period of job hunting a bit bearable. Even though my current job wasn't necessarily directly from the community, I can't take away all the help and encouragement I got from them and I'm super grateful for the community for that.

Hey, I started job hunting while I was still in Lagos, and I joined the group about 3 months to my landing date. Banke posted the role and said someone that works for the company was willing to refer, I applied, then reached out to the person on LinkedIn. She referred me, someone else helped with interview tips for the role and that was it. I got the job, had to move my flight up to resume too 😊. Thanks to the group, thanks to Banke, and everyone that contributed to make it happen!

Been searching for about a year and decided to join the PMM Bootcamp to expand my knowledge and pivot. During the first session, Coach Timi used the time to encourage the class about applications. The second class, we discussed storytelling. Those 2 sessions improved my job search mindset and I secured some interviews. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and apply.
