“Since moving to Canada, this is the first time I’ve witnessed a community come together so strongly to support one another. I’ve already received three referrals from the group.”
From a Twitter Spaces to a
a National Network
Black Catalyst Network was formerly Nigerian Canadian Life. It started as Twitter Spaces in 2022, co-hosted by Banks, Tunde, and Olamide, later joined by Joel. The conversations were about being an immigrant in Canada — settling in, finding work, processing the journey.
In March 2024 we moved to WhatsApp. Members wanted hands-on help — resume reviews, interview prep, referrals — that a Twitter Space couldn’t carry. The first group was Tech Careers. Within a week, members were running the first resume workshop.
By March 2025 we were hosting live sessions on Zoom for resume clinics and career talks. Banks formally incorporated Black Catalyst Network in November 2025 — three years from the first Twitter Space to a registered company.
The community shaped itself. We listened, and named it.
